Go Lipoproteins (determination in serum)

Lipoproteins (determined in serum) are determined by electrophoresis, like serum proteins, only using Sudan black B. Separate fractions are identified by comparing them with the simultaneously produced proteinogram, since lipoproteins are separated like protein fractions. According to Swan, α-lipoproteins in the normal 29.2%, β-lipoproteins 31.6%.

The content of α-lipoproteins due to β-lipoproteins increases with diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, less often with acromegaly, as well as with atherosclerosis and nephrosis.
