Tympanopuncture is the puncture of the eardrum with a hollow needle connected to a syringe . It is performed both with diagnostic (suctioning of the contents of the tympanic cavity for research) and therapeutic (introduction into the tympanic cavity of medicinal substances) by the objectives. In the latter case, the tympanic puncture is often produced instead of paracentesis (see).
