Torn test with ACTH. An idea of the functional activity of the adrenal cortex can be obtained using the Thorn test. Determine the number of eosinophils in 1 mm 3 blood on an empty stomach (after 12 hours of fasting), and then 4 hours after intramuscular administration of ACTH. Adrenal function is reduced if the number of eosinophils decreased by less than 50%. The results are evaluated carefully if the initial amount of eosinophils was less than 80 or more than 600.
If the sample is not clear, inject ACTH (a specially purified preparation) into the vein for 8 hours in the form of 500 ml of physiological saline in which 25 U of ACTH are dissolved. With a decrease in the number of eosinophils in the peripheral blood by 859 / o and an increase in the daily excretion of 17-hydroxy corticosteroids by 10-15 mg, and 17-ketosteroids by 4 mg, we can assume that the functional activity of the adrenal cortex is not disturbed.
