The fight against injuries consists of the prevention and organization of trauma care.

Injury prevention is based on identifying the causes, circumstances and conditions of the origin of injuries by investigating each of them at the scene of the incident. In such an investigation, usually along with the administration, representatives of the security service and the trade union organization, medical workers also take an active part. Based on this investigation, a comprehensive injury prevention plan is being developed. This plan includes specific measures to eliminate the causes of injuries due to violations of technical, organizational and sanitary-hygienic norms and rules. Medical workers play a leading role in addressing the causes of injuries caused by the violation of sanitary and hygienic standards. They also carry out measures to eliminate the so-called personal factors that may be the causes of injuries: illness, fatigue , alcohol intoxication, etc.

Soviet legislation places the primary responsibility for ensuring safe labor practices (see Safety ) and for effectively combating industrial injuries in the administration of industrial and agricultural enterprises. Eliminating the causes of other types of injuries is the responsibility of local authorities and agencies. The main measures to combat street injuries - strict control over the implementation of traffic rules, professional selection of drivers and drivers, explanatory work with the population, the fight against alcoholism, the device of underground passages. Prevention of sports injuries: training and training in the presence of an instructor; reliable "insurance", properly organized medical supervision. Most injuries in children result from inadequate supervision of them. The Central Commission for the Fight against Child Injuries has been organized under the Executive Committee of the RCSC and KP. Similar commissions are available in all cities of the USSR. Trade union organizations, the Red Cross Society and its local organizations are taking part in the fight against injuries. In the USSR, great strides have been made in reducing industrial injuries.

To provide victims of injuries with specialized medical aid in the USSR, there is a coherent system of organizing trauma care, which consists of qualified first-aid trauma care, outpatient and inpatient treatment. The first trauma care is usually provided at the scene by average paramedics of health centers and medical sanitation facilities of industrial enterprises, medical attendant and obstetric centers in rural areas and the staff of stations and emergency departments . Outpatient trauma care is provided in special traumatological centers organized in cities at major polyclinics at the rate of one point per 100 thousand population. Inpatient care is provided in special trauma departments of city hospitals at the rate of 40 beds per 100 thousand population.

The final stage of the organization of trauma care is restorative treatment undertaken as soon as possible. It is carried out in special departments of research institutes of traumatology and orthopedics, as well as in a number of medical and preventive institutions. In the rehabilitation treatment of injuries of the musculoskeletal system, physical, including balneological, treatment methods and therapeutic exercises , in which average medics play a big role, are of great importance.
