Tuberculin (synonym for Altutuberculin Koch - ATC) is a drug used to diagnose tuberculosis. It is a condensed filtrate of human and bovine tuberculosis killed by heating the broth culture of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Tuberculin is a clear, dark-brown liquid. Tuberculin is capable of causing an allergic reaction in an organism infected with tuberculosis (an intracutaneous Mantoux test, a Pirque skin test), whereas in a healthy organism it is not very active.
