Phenobarbital (Phenobarbitalum; synonym for luminal; list B ) is a hypnotic that is a derivative of barbituric acid. Phenobarbital also has a calming and anticonvulsant effect. Assign inside as a sleeping pill to 0.1-0.2 g for 1-1.5 hours before bedtime; Duration of sleep 6-8 hours. As a sedative, phenobarbital is used in 0.01-0.05 g, 2-3 times a day; for the treatment of epilepsy - 0.1-0.5 g per day for a long time. Higher doses by mouth: single - 0.2 g; daily - 0.5 g.
