Distilled water (Aqua distillata, s. Destillata) is drinking water purified by distillation. According to the requirements of the Pharmacopoeia, distilled water for medical purposes is a flavourless liquid and taste, pH — 5.0–6.8. Distilled water should not contain appreciable amounts of reducing substances, chlorides, sulfates, nitrates, nitrites, calcium , CO 2 and NH 3 .
For especially precise work, bidistillate is used - distilled water twice distilled from platinum or quartz apparatus. The bidistillate is stored in a quartz glass or Pyrex glassware. Distilled water is not suitable for drinking. See also Distillation.
