First aid

First aid is a complex of medical and preventive measures conducted before the doctor's intervention.

Conventionally, pre-medical care can be divided into assistance provided by the average medical staff: paramedic, midwife, nurse, and assistance provided by people who do not have special medical training.

Medical institutions that provide pre-medical care are paramedic health centers at enterprises (see ZdravPunkt ), obstetric, paramedical and feldshersko-obstetric points (see). The decisive role in the provision of pre-hospital care at industrial enterprises belongs to health centers. However, it is not always possible for the health worker to provide the necessary assistance on time. In this regard, self-help and mutual assistance of workers are of great importance.

Pre-medical care provided by people who do not have special medical training consists in using the simplest means at the scene (in the shop, on the street, at home) before the arrival of the medical worker.

The

Education of the population for some medical assistance under special programs is carried out in Russia by the Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations, as well as at courses at enterprises. These programs include training on applying a hemostatic tourniquet, pressing bandages, pressing large vessels, applying simple bandages, producing artificial respiration , and applying tires to fractures. Particular attention should be paid to practical demonstration of the methods of first aid . The system of organization of self-and mutual assistance includes the training of workers in the Rules for the provision of first medical care in relation to the conditions of production, the establishment of sanitary posts.

Sanitary posts for the provision of pre-hospital care in the shops are created from among well-trained workers; these posts are especially needed in the sections of the workshop remote from the health center. The sanitary post should be equipped with the necessary materials for first aid - stretchers, individual aseptic bags, cotton-gauze dressings, tires, hemostatic tourniquet , iodine tincture, ammonia, valerian tincture, etc. (see First Aid Kits, Sanitary Bags). It is important that every worker of the workshop is aware of the whereabouts of the sanitary post. Workers should be familiar with safety regulations.

In rural areas, work on the organization and provision of pre-medical care is carried out by feldsher-midwife points. In the period of sowing and harvesting campaigns, sanitary posts are organized in each brigade; tractor drivers and combine operators are provided with individual aseptic bags and are trained to use them. Along with the training of agricultural workers and collective farmers, the rules for providing self-help and mutual assistance should also be introduced to the rules of safety of agricultural labor and the most frequent causes of injuries.
