Sanatorium treatment is one of the most important stages in the general system of treatment and preventive measures aimed at reducing morbidity and improving the health of children. The Communist Party of the USSR and the Soviet Government are paying great attention to further improving the sanatorium-resort treatment of children, and increasing its role in carrying out the tasks of a general medical examination of the population. However, many aspects of the organization of sanatorium care for children are not sufficiently covered in the literature. The authors of this book have tried to fill in the gaps that exist in the area of this problem. The book not only highlights the main methods of non-pharmacological treatment of children, the rational use of climatic, balneological, physiotherapy methods, water-heat treatment, hardening, but also provides recommendations on educational work. It summarizes the long-term experience of the authors and analyzed literature data. The guidance materials provided in the appendix (guidelines, regulations, etc.) that determine the organization of medical and pedagogical work in sanatoriums of various medical profiles may be of interest to specialists of this profile.Go
Authors will gratefully accept critical comments and suggestions that will further improve the organization of sanatorium-resort care for children.

The Communist Party and the Soviet government pay great attention to the health of children. An important link in the general system of Soviet health, aimed at reducing the incidence and improving the health of children, is sanatorium treatment. A broad program of measures to further improve public health, sanatorium-resort assistance is outlined in the decisions of the XXVI Congress of the CPSU, in the resolution of the CPSU Central Committee, Council of Ministers of the USSR and the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions on Measures for Further Improving Sanatorium-Resort Treatment and Rest of Workers from January 7, 1982
Our country is very rich in natural healing factors - mineral springs, mud deposits, coastal, forest, mountain climate areas. These riches need to be more widely used in order to heal and treat children with various diseases. The level of health and physical development of children in recent years has increased, but there are some diseases, the number of which is not decreasing yet (allergic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal). The origins of many diseases of adults need to be sought and prevented in childhood.
Sanatorium treatment, contributing to the maximum restoration of children's health after illness, prevention of chronic forms, increase of functional capabilities and health reserves of a growing body, is becoming increasingly important.
At present, the USSR has a large and differentiated network of children's specialized sanatorium facilities of various profiles and purposes: local and resort sanatoria for children, resort pioneer camps of year-round and seasonal activities, sanatoriums for parents with children, sanatorium forest schools. In many children's sanatoriums, opportunities are created to continue their studies. Sanatoriums are equipped with modern medical and diagnostic equipment. Sanatorium treatment, in contrast to inpatient treatment, includes the widespread use of natural and preformed (artificial) physical factors, various forms of therapeutic physical training, special methods of treatment and restoration of health. The maximum use of modern therapeutic factors, depending on the specifics of the sanatorium, the age of the child, the nature and stage of the pathological process, comorbidities, and individual characteristics increases the effectiveness of therapeutic and preventive measures.
The sanatorium network is specialized in view of the structure of the incidence of children and the need for sanatorium treatment. Based on the modern achievements of pediatric science, differentiated indications and contraindications, principles of treatment of sick children in sanatorium facilities of various types have been developed. Proper selection of patients allows the most appropriate to use the existing diverse network of sanatorium facilities. The USSR Ministry of Health, the Central Council for the Management of Trade Union Resorts, together with the USSR Ministry of Education, issued special regulatory documents and briefing letters regulating the most important aspects of the organization of sanatorium-resort treatment of children, medical and educational work.
A rational combination of medical and recreational and educational work with children, the interrelated activities of medical and teaching staff are very important. The organization of work of all sanatorium employees, the regular improvement of their qualifications largely determine the level and quality of medical, diagnostic and educational work, and the effectiveness of children's treatment. Basic sanatoriums - schools of excellence, joint scientific and practical work of sanatorium doctors with scientists, employees of the Institute of Balneology, Pediatrics, departments of medical institutes have a large role in improving various aspects of the work of the staff of the children's sanatorium.
